Welcome to Mastermum

Hi, I'm Kim.

I am a wife and a mum to 2 small children Caleb, 2 and Kara, 5.

I'm a sport and neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapist (that's a fancy way of saying I can help you with most things to do with nerves, bones and muscles), and my special interest lies in postnatal recovery and return to fitness conditioning.

I am registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa), the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council UK) and the CSP (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy UK).  I am also an affiliate member of the POGP (Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy Network UK).

Where do I come from and how did I get here?

I grew up in South Africa and obtained my degree in Physiotherapy in 2006 from the University of Pretoria.  After qualifying I worked in various public and private healthcare settings in South Africa and in 2010 I moved to the UK with my husband to experience life in a new country, to travel and learn.

After living and working in London, Cambridgeshire and Kent we finally found a place to call home and are happily settled in Walton on Thames, Surrey.

Where did Mastermum come from?

From my experiences as a new mum and as a sport and women's health physiotherapist, I have found that there are two major issues facing pregnant and postnatal mothers.

1) A lack of clear information and simple guidance about how to manage common issues, and

2) Specialist physiotherapy services are so inconvenient for mums to access that they end up avoiding getting help because of the hassle.

I created Mastermum to provide easier access to specialist physiotherapy services postnatal mums.

How is Mastermum better for you?

Because I bring Physio to you! Take the hassle out of getting help.

Let your children explore, play, sleep or eat in the comfort of their own home while you get the help you need.

I have made it my mission to change the image of Postnatal Physio! You will not get a hand drawn picture or a photocopy of a photocopy of an old exercise to do on your own at home.  I use activity and therapy apps  and whatever media works for you to help you keep on track with our plan.

I want you to enjoy your Physiotherapy appointments and I want you to value them. I keep things enjoyable and light, simple, practical and memorable. And I adjust things as we go along to make sure they work for you in real life!

I will help you to learn which muscle release techniques work best for your body, to discover the power of mindful movement, to explore your own body awareness and bring all the pieces back together again with directed functional training. I call it the the 'woo woo' of Physiotherapy!

Most importantly you will have someone to talk to about what is worrying you and begin to find solutions.

So this is Physio. Only a bit different to what you may have experienced before!

I hope to see you soon,

Kim
